Just three words, but...
Because they're beautiful in so many ways:

Or a man.

It's from Sunday.

I love them for John, the notoriously shy about admitting feelings and stuff guy, being supportive of Ronon, even if he would be, you know, gay.

I love them for my very own interpretation of John thinking, "You know, while we're talking about non-weapons and non-sports related things... I've somehow fallen in love with Rodney and would really like to talk about it, because I think it's beginning to drive me crazy."

And I love them for finally acknowledging something other than the heteronormative world we've seen in the Stargate universe so far (unless I really totally forgot something here). And also because I feel that in a way it acknowledges us (as in fans who see gay relationships as a part of their view of the show).

Re: This line is so cool, even for a straight guy!
Oh, I certainly love the line in its "canon" interpretation of a heterosexual guy being open-minded.

And I agree that assuming that another man could either be in a relationship with a woman or a man (and saying so) is not too surprising. What gets me though in this case is that Ronon has already implied with his question that he dates women. Maybe I'm seeing this too narrowly, but to me the conversation read like this:

"So are you seeing someone at the moment?"

"No, I don't have a girlfriend right now."

"So do you have a boyfriend?"

Do you see what I mean?

Of course Ronon could have just used women because the majority of guys are in romantic relationships with women and he's seen John with women. But even then it seems like an unnecessary and very deliberate display of John's open-mindedness.

In any case I love it :)
